Beauty in Action January 20 2017
We will be closed on Saturday, January 21st.
We debated posting as to why we will be closed as it is personal, but we've never adhered to the "it's not personal, it's just business" idiom.
In fact...can't think of anything more personal than what we do all day, every day, pour our hearts and souls into, blood, sweat equity and tears.
And that is particularly true for this business.
The great honor of having a floral business is getting to participate in the important moments of our customers' lives. Everyday we get to participate in celebrating birth and death, anniversary and marriage, getting a driver's license, starring in play, saying you are sorry, forgiveness and every expression of LOVE imaginable.
Beauty is as beauty does.
So, tomorrow we close to take action in a beautiful way. Tomorrow we march.
https://womensmarchla.org
We march for our daughters to never have to settle for being represented by this man in the highest office in this county, not in the office we visit or may work in, not anywhere.
We march for our mothers to receive the respect and care they deserve in the later part of their lives.
We march for ourselves to declare our incredible value, our worth and our rights as people and as the creators of life and love.
We march to plant seeds of peace and prosperity~ one nation, united with liberty and justice for all.
We hold these truths to be self evident.
We plan to bloom in the pursuit of Happiness~ creating a wildflower garden of Freedom, Equality, Life, & Liberty.
The shop will re-open on Monday.
Be The Light January 16 2017
We will be closed today in observance of Martin Luther King Day.
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

let's be the light.

Happy St. Valentine's Day February 06 2016
We love a day to celebrate love!
We love our loyal customers and take care to make each order custom to the recipient.
No two orders will be exactly the same!
We do sell out every year~ so get your order in early!
We know it's difficult to understand for some people who have a wire service, direct from warehouse, or larger floral company experience. Please do keep in mind that there are only three of us and our trusty delivery company. That's only six hands to make every order custom and amazing, take orders, answer the phone, prep flowers, handle in store customers and organize deliveries! We can only do what we can do! (And that's staying late and working through without breaks. If you are picking up your order, feel free to bring coffee! )
This year, the LA Marathon takes place on February 14th and the finish line is in Santa Monica, so gratitude in advance for understanding our delivery challenges.
We have some really lovely options available this year and each arrangement will be a one of a kind expression of your love and/or adoration~ made to order, delivered fresh and fast as possible.
HAPPY LOVE DAY!
love,
Us

Please note: We will be CLOSED from December 24th to January 3rd.
We will re-open on Monday, January 4th.
Thank you again, and some more...and we look forward to a beautiful New Year.

Zen and The Art of Flowering November 16 2015
Here's the thing~ the flower shop you grew up with, or the idea you have in your mind of a flower shop? It most likely doesn't exist anymore.
Huge florists with giant walk in coolers full of pre-made arrangements and propped up, dyed, spray painted flowers sitting in bleach, yeah, that doesn't work so well.
(And we have never participated in any of that. We are self proclaimed and proud flower snobs.)
The biggest florist chain went bankrupt a few years ago. You can get grocery store flowers or farmer's market flowers (very rarely from a farm) or corporate on-line flowers, where if you think it will look like the picture~ you are sadly mistaken.
If you are not in the floral industry then you probably don't know about the huge changes in the last 20 years and even more so, in the last 10. Why would you? Not your job!
But it is our job. And we love our job. And we are good at it.
What we're doing here at fleur santa monica is something different. We are proud of what we do and your expectation of an old business model needs to be left at the door, please.
We are pioneers and happy participants in a floral revolution!
We are not a flower shop.
Let that sink in.
We are not a flower shop.
We are not a flower store or a flower market of any kind. That's a separate business, you understand. Like the difference between a grocery store and a restaurant. You don't go to the restaurant and demand a carton of milk, a loaf bread and a hunk of cheese! (At least, we hope you don't...) NO indeed, you order an artisan grilled cheese sandwich and a glass of organic milk, and hopefully, you enjoy the heck out of the fine ingredients being sourced and prepared for you by a professional chef.
We are a custom floral design studio and boutique. We fill our 'pantry' and fridges with fresh, locally grown, incredible floral product. From field to vase. Sustainable. Conscious. Each order made to order with the best product we can source. We buy fresh flowers everyday. We do not sell flowers by the stem or the bunch, but by the professionally arranged bouquet using only the finest florals available each day.
We work by color palette and price range and we are very good at what we do.
If you want to do it yourself, or have a specific vision, then by all means, please do!!!
But then, leave us out of it, please. And thank you!
We don't offer pictures of our arrangements, other than for inspiration and a general sense of our style, for a myriad of reasons from:
it being a completely separate skill and service to take pics of florals
to not having the time to download and send pictures back and forth all day
and we DO NOT know any other designers sending out pictures. Not a single one.
We understand that our vision and taste may be different from yours and you know what? That is more than okay.
If what we are offering is not what you want~ that is okay too.
Go out and find what it is you want! We want you to get what you want!
But we can't help you other than giving you our sincerest best wishes in finding it!
On the other hand, if you let us do what we do~ we will create something wonderful and unique to your occasion or recipient using only the most premium product in lovely containers!
And we do our best work for EVERY order, regardless of price point or recipient. Whether it's a pick me up for your elderly granny, your moviestar wife's birthday, or your friend whose dog just passed away. EVERYONE gets our equal and best work without exception.
We understand that your reason for flowers is important to you and it's important to us too. We are honored to get to participate in all of it.
Thanks for understanding what we're doing and being such an amazing inspiration for doing it to the best of our abilities everyday.
love,
All of Us

Happy Memorial Day May 23 2015
Please note: we will be CLOSED Monday, May 25th in observance of memorial day.
We will be 'strewing flowers' in a grand tradition.
According to the U.S Department of Veterans Affairs, the tradition that later became Memorial Day was begun in 1868 by the national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, General John Logan, three years after the U.S. Civil War ended leaving 620,000 Union and Confederate soldiers dead.
Logan issued General Order No. 11 declaring: “The 30th of May, 1868 is designated for the purpose of strewing flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land.”
He called it “Decoration Day.”
We look forward to more beautiful flowers next week!
Happy and Honorable Decoration Day.
Mother's Day May 02 2015
So~ Mother's Day is May 10th.
This year we are only taking orders for the first 25 customers that would like a Saturday delivery ONLY.
~WE WILL BE CLOSED ON MOTHER'S DAY~
We know that may not work for some of our favorite customers and we appreciate your understanding!
We wish you a very HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
Floriography March 14 2015
Floriography~ The Language of Flowers
Flowers have meaning! They have been used in folklore, the Bible, and written word for thousands of years. We incorporate this tradition when building our arrangements. Utilizing the intent of the sender~ so that recipient feels the thought or wish behind each arrangement and bouquet.
The Turks in the 17th century developed formal flower meanings, as a way for the concubine women who could not read or write to communicate with each other. In 1718 the wife of the British ambassador to Constantinople, Lady Mary Wortley Montague, wrote a letter expounding on the “Secret Language of Flowers” that she had discovered during her visits to Turkey. Europeans quickly picked up on the concept.
In 1819 Louise Cortambert, under the pen name, Madame Charlotte de la Tour, wrote and published what seems to have been the first dictionary of the flower language entitled, Le Language des Fleurs. It was a small book, but it became a popular reference on the subject.
During the Victorian era, the meaning and language of flowers became increasingly popular. Victorian women especially picked up the silent language that allowed them to communicate feelings and meanings that the strict propriety of the times would not allow.
In 1884 a whole book on the subject and entitled, The Language of Flowers, by Jean Marsh and illustrated by Kate Greenaway, was published in London. It became popular and respected and has been the standard source for Victorian flower meanings. But you had to be careful, as so many new floral dictionaries were published, that your loved one had the same dictionary, or huge miscommunications could ensue! William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, and many others, all used the language of flowers in their writings.
Lady Mary Wortley Montague
